Waiting periods and Enrollment Vet Exam
Your Happy Tails™ Pet Insurance policy coverage for accident is immediate and for illnesses, there is a ninety (90) day waiting period after your policy effective date. Your policy is effective 12:01 a.m. of the day following the date you enroll your pet.
Specific hereditary and congenital conditions like elbow dysplasia coverage is provided at no extra cost and is subject to a 12 month waiting period for pets younger than six. At this time, we are unable to cover hereditary and congenital conditions if your pet is six years of age or older at the time of enrollment.
Unfortunately if your pet is sick during the waiting period, it is not covered and is considered a pre-existing condition. We have waiting periods to protect all our customers from fraudulent claims.
During the course of your normal care, your pet has probably visited your favourite veterinarian. As pet parents, we advocate the best care for our pets.
It is a mandatory requirement that the pet undergoes a clinical examination by a vet within 30 days from the commencement date of the insurance to be eligible for cover. Please download the clinical examination form at this link. The examination result must be produced when you make the first claim. NO claim is payable if this requirement is not met.
Happy Tails™ is a pet insurance that covers surgical procedures and cancer care due to accidental and illnesses causes. As pet parents, we advocate the best care for our pets. Hence, it is important to bring our pets for check-up at the vet regularly.
Why the need for ahealth check-up enrollment requirement?
- Ensure pet is healthy, fully vaccinated and tick-free
- Check for pre-existing conditions
- Ensure premiums will be affordable for all
- Ensure Happy Tails pet insurance is sustainable in the long run
Happy Tails™ is the only pets insurance that covers specified hereditary and congenital diseases. For Happy Tails to continue to service and protect all the pets in the program, there is a need for an enrollment check-up so as to ascertain if there are any pre-existing conditions which would be excluded. If all pets are included without a pre-enrolment requisite, the premium will be too high. The local pet population is much smaller compared to mature pet insurance markets like US or Australia. Our objective is to achieve an affordable and sustainable pet protection plan in the long run.

It is a pre-requisite that the Pet undergoes an enrolment examination before the commencement date of the insurance. Please download the clinical examination form at this link. The examination result must be produced when you make the first claim. NO claim is payable if this requirement is not met.
When you file your first claim, we will need a copy of your pet's full medical history, including documentation of the enrollment exam. You can request this from your veterinarian and email the records to us. If we do not receive your pet's full medical records, it may delay the processing of your claim.
Vaccination
Vaccination is a safeguard against bacterial and viral infections. The first vaccine can start as early as 6 weeks old and the course of vaccination is recommended to be completed by 16 weeks. Check if your pet has completed the following vaccines to see if additional vaccine is needed.
For dogs:
- Distemper
- Parovirus
- Canine infectious hepatitis
For cats:

At Happy Tails™, we advocate responsible pet parenting. Do ensure your pet’s vaccination is complete and up to date. To enrol with Happy Tails, it is a pre-requisite that your pet’s vaccination has to be up to date. Claims on procedures that resulted from the pet failing to be vaccinated against will be denied.
